The Brian May Seiko was designed with the Queen Guitarist and inspired by his Red Special guitar. It appeals to watch collectors and fans of rock music.
I started collecting with the Monster, but many kicked off with a Seiko 5 field watch. Now I have the Japanese blue dial SNZG11J for hands-on review.
What I didn't realize is that it's not just a bezel swap. The watch case is different from that of a standard Monster, and it has a few other tweaks.
New collectors or those on a budget often set hard limits on what they can spend on a watch, and that number is often $500. Despite recent cost increases, there are still a lot of great watches that can be bought for (often significantly) less than that amount.
SKX007 and SKX009 were Seiko's most popular dive watches and when it discontinued them, it came as a shock. The Seiko 5 Sports line has the styling of SKX, but lost its tool watch credibility. I was never motivated to own one until now. Can the Sonar step out of the SKX’s shadow?
