Hands-on with the new gray Casioak, plus the all red and updates on the market. Casio G-Shock GA2110ET-8A Watch Review

Nick Lehner

If you read my recent review of the Casioak, you'll know that it's one of the hottest watch releases of recent years. At the time, I predicted that they would become more available, and come down in price.

Well, I was wrong. They are still sold out, and are still selling for over retail price in the secondary market (other than the red GA2100-4A, which is available from most sites at MSRP).

To keep the momentum going, Casio has released two new colors of the Casioak under the "Earth Tone" series. A light gray (GA2110ET-8A), and navy blue (GA2110ET-2A) shown below.

As with my green "Utility Color" Casioak, I managed to snag a gray one right before they sold out. I also borrowed the red one from a friend to do a little hands-on comparison.

The functions and comfort of the other colors are the same as the green one that I reviewed earlier this year, so please read that review if you haven't already. I'll just discuss the differences with the new models.

Update: Since originally posting this article, I've reviewed additional versions including the metal, mid-size, and solar/Bluetooth models. Click here to see those reviews.

The gray has a positive LCD display, versus negative on the green version. This matches the dial better, plus makes it much easier to read.

The down-side is that the legibility of the hands is reduced on the gray compared to the green (but at least it looks cool).

The buckle is also gray plastic to match the band, versus polished metal on the green one. Even though metal is a more durable material, I will take the color-matched for looks any day.

I like the look of the gray a lot, and the slightly darker bezel adds just the right amount of contrast.

The red version is the most fun one of the bunch, but also the worst for legibility. Both the LCD and the hands are difficult to read.

But boy is it fun to wear! It is ALL RED including the buckle. This is a fun watch to wear on the weekend when you don't have anywhere important to be.

It's been fun spending time with the different color version. It almost makes me wish I had one of every version!
