A friend recently loaned me his Q Timex GMT. I wanted to compare it to the 38mm Quartz Q, as well as photograph it with different versions of the StrapHabit TQ18 Q Timex straps! Keep reading to learn about the GMT, and how it compares to the Quartz, as well as see photos of it on some different straps. 
First Impressions:
Like the other Q models, the GMT has a lot of charm. You get the feel of wearing a vintage watch without the cost or hassle. The hour hand with the large circular section and pointed tip give it character and also makes it easy to read.
Q Timex 38mm Quartz Details and Comparison to the 38mm Reissue:
At first glance, this "Pepsi" version of the Q Timex GMT looks like it's the same watch as the 38mm Reissue, just with an extra hand. Upon comparing them side by side, however, I noticed a bunch of other subtle differences and upgrades present on the $40 more expensive GMT.
Instead of deep blue, the dial on the GMT is matte black.
The hour markers are raised, with metal surrounds, and the second hand is polished. This gives it a more expensive appearance than the non-GMT. Additionally, the GMT loses the day display but features a Swiss quartz movement, rather than the Japanese movement in the 3-hander.
Also, the bezel color is lighter on the GMT, giving it a vintage look, like a faded bezel on a decades-old GMT. The bezel also loses the black coloring on the underside. Both watches are within 0.1mm in all dimensions and the domed plexiglass crystal looks the same.
The finishing is not extremely sharp or precise, but is nice for the price of the watch, with brushed top surfaces, and polished sides.
Wearing the Q Timex GMT:
Legibility is quite good, and these watches wear quite comfortably due to their small size and low weight.
The rotating 24-hour bezel allows wearers to track a third time zone, and change the time zone tracked on the fly.
There are no clicks, and it is a friction fit, but the rotation is smooth.
The lume is not as bright as something like a Seiko, but is better than many budget watches and is completely adequate.
Despite the markers looking thicker, the brightness is similar to the non-GMT.
Q Timex GMT Original and Replacement Straps:
The stainless steel bracelet on the GMT is nicer than the one that comes on the regular Q. It features polished sections on the mostly brushed links, and its solid steel construction doesn't pull hair like the one on its less expensive sibling.
One of the key aspects of all of the Q Timex original straps is their shape. The Q Timex watches all have 18mm lug widths, but fairly thick lugs and square cases. Thus, you can fit a standard 18mm strap to one, but it won't look quite right. This is where StrapHabit TQ18 Q Timex straps come in! Q Timex GMT Movement:
The Swiss Quartz movement in the GMT is a "caller" GMT style. At the first click, the crown advances the date when turned in one direction, and jumps the 24-hour hand by one hour when turned the other way.
The fact that it is Swiss instead of Japanese is not a big selling point to me but will help to further justify the higher price to some.
Conclusion:
As you probably know, I was already a fan of the Q Timex line. I also like GMT watches, so this one is a no-brainer. I wish that I had bought the GMT instead of my regular quartz model.
It's a great option if you're a world traveler who is either on a budget or prefers not to carry a more expensive watch when abroad. If you like the appearance of the Q and need a GMT, it's worth a look!
