In a recent review, I mentioned that Spinnaker offers dive watches that look traditional, as well as purely fun things like its SpongeBob SquarePants series. Another of its wilder recent watches is a collaboration with French designer seconde/seconde/. Instead of a play on watch nicknames like Kermit or Batman (or your ex-significant other), the Spinnaker Fleuss x Seconde Seconde began as a riff on a different famous watch.
The original 2023 collaboration between the two brands featured 50 luminous ghosts throughout the watch and was named "Fifty Phantoms," a nod to the original dive watch from Blancpain. It became so popular that the duo has produced a few follow-up models, including this 2025 version.
Spinnaker Fleuss Seconde Seconde First Impressions
This now sold-out 2025 Spinnaker seconde/seconde edition was available in 43mm or 40mm. I found the Fleuss Severn edition to be a bit large for my taste, so this smaller version is my preference. It looks cool in stainless steel, and I found a number of hidden easter eggs that we'll get into later.
Spinnaker Fleuss Seconde Seconde Details
This version of the Fleuss is largely monochromatic, although that doesn't mean it's boring. The case is brushed stainless steel (minus some polished chamfers), and instead of the typical anodized insert, the bezel is also entirely made of the same material, as are the hands.
Even the dial is silver with a textured surface, although this is where the fun starts. A group of ghosts (which I learned is called a "fraid") appears to be floating across the dial from left to right. This also adds texture, as they are raised off the dial at multiple levels and filled with multiple shades of off-white.
In the midst of the fraid, you'll find the depth rating (150m, which equates to 82 fathoms), and the text "47+3 PHANTOMS."
This refers to the 47 ghosts visible on the dial, plus 3 sets of eyes hidden on the rotor and the side of the case, and the date window, all of which are lume-filled. Despite its appearance as a grand date complication, it has a single date wheel bisected and magnified.
Wearing the Spinnaker Fleuss Seconde Seconde
The aforementioned magnifier is affixed to a boxed sapphire crystal with AR applied. This, combined with the exposed crown (featuring the Seconde Seconde logo), gives the case a slightly vintage aesthetic. The undercut sides of the case also reduce the appearance of thickness (which is already thin for a dive watch at 12.9mm).
It does still appear larger than 40mm, mostly due to the chunky, non-tapered lugs.
Besides looking distinctive, the wavy bezel design makes it very easy to grip and turn. The clicks are crisp, and there isn't much play between the 120 detents, though the alignment is ever-so-slightly off.
Legibility is pretty poor for a dive watch, although it's to be expected as it's not really what the watch is all about. The hands are too thin and too similar in color and shade to the busy dial, making it difficult to read. The hour markers are also small and not distinctive.

The Fleuss includes a brushed beads of rice style stainless steel bracelet and a white luminous elastic strap that glows green.

Spinnaker Fleuss Seconde Seconde Movement
A Miyota 9105 powers the Fleuss 50 Phantoms, likely contributing to the thinner case dimensions. Automatic and hand-winding provide 42 hours of power reserve, beating at 28,8000 vph. Spinnaker doesn't mention its accuracy, but Miyota says it should perform at +30/-10 seconds per day. This movement is an upgrade over the Seiko NH35 in the standard Fluess (and the 43mm version of this watch, which also has a Seiko movement), making this a limited-edition model that provides more than just styling enhancements.
Spinnaker Fleuss Seconde Seconde Conclusion
I've long appreciated the fun that seconde/seconde brings to the watches that it modifies. Many brands take watches very seriously, so it's fun to see a refreshing take applied. Among its collaborations with Spinnaker, this one is especially eye-catching for its wavy bezel and somewhat monochromatic appearance. I look forward to seeing what the brand does next.
