Swatch Crushing Orange Watch Review - SB05O102

Nick Lehner

My son must have really loved my Swatch Neon to the Max. When we visited the Swatch store recently, he begged me to buy him the Swatch Crushing Orange. How could I say no?

The Omega x Swatch Moonswatch and Blancpain x Swatch Fifty Fathoms appear to have successfully given more interest to the brand, as we were in the Times Square Swatch store looking for a Moonswatch when he spotted the Crushing Orange.

Swatch Crushing Orange Details

The crushing orange features large, skeletonized hands with an angular shape.

The dial has a subtle vertical brushed pattern. At first, it looks orange, but Swatch describes the dial as brown. An orange-tinted crystal gives it this appearance.

While the Swatch brand name is printed on, the hour markers are machined down into the dial rather than pressed up. This seems like a cost-effective way to give the look of applied, machined markers, plus it's cool!

The large, black crown is easy to grip and sits out of the way at 2. Since it's quartz, you won't be needing to adjust the time often.

Wearing the Swatch Crushing Orange

Despite being 47mm in diameter, the Swatch Crushing Orange is quite comfortable. The back of the case has a built-in curve that allows it to hug your wrist. It's also very light and is thinner than the Neon to the max.

It's a watch that's intended to be fun. Thus I don't mind it being larger than I'd prefer in a more traditional watch.

Swatch Crushing Orange Strap

The strap on the Swatch Crushing Orange is orange resin with a modeled in diamond pattern. Due to the unique Swatch lugs, strap change options will be limited.

While feeling a bit cheap, the strap is comfortable and matches the case color.

The Swatch Crushing Orange Movement

The Crushing Orange uses a basic Swatch 3-hand quartz movement. It doesn't have a date, and the ticking is rather loud through its bio-sourced plastic case.

The case is sealed, but battery changes are a breeze with the small metal access panel.

Conclusion

Swatch watches don't tend to offer tremendous value, and the Crushing Orange is no exception. For $115, there are better made watches out there. What Swatch does offer besides the "Swiss Made" is fun designs. There is a lot to be said for that. Plus it's gotten my son to want to wear a watch!

What an absolutely cool watch! I also think it’s pretty ingenious to machine the indices into the dial face rather than apply them, plus it adds dimension to the dial! The price is a bit off putting. True, there are so many other watches that have better specs at that price point (did I hear G-SHOCK?), but you get a super fun unique watch!
