Late last year, Casio released a Ring Watch, the CRW001-1. I had never worn a ring watch, or any rings for that matter, besides my wedding ring. But of course, I was intrigued. Would it be comfortable? Corny? Or cool as hell. Luckily, I got a chance to find out. Thanks to Random Rob for letting me borrow the ring watch!

First Impressions of the Casio Ring Watch CRW001
The macro photos that I had seen of the Casio Ring Watch had skewed my impression of its size. I had read that it's only 19.5mm wide, but that didn't matter. The photos showed a ring that looked like a G-Shock, so in my mind, it was going to be a huge, watch-sized ring on my finger. In reality, it's tiny!

Casio Ring Watch CRW001 Details
The case is fully polished steel, shaped like the familiar square G-Shock. It's not branded as a G-Shock, but you'll find the familiar indents on the side, button spacing, and small circles on the bezel. The band of the ring even features a wave pattern, similar to a resin strap.

The positive display features a brick pattern around the exterior and clearly labeled function buttons. The information displayed is reduced, which allows the LCD numerals to be larger.

Wearing the Casio Ring Watch CRW001
The Casio Ring Watch has an inner diameter of 20 mm and a circumference of 62.8 mm, fitting a size 22 finger (US 10.5, EU U). Two size-adjusting spacers, in sizes 19 (19-mm inner diameter) and 16 (18-mm inner diameter), are included.

It fit on my ring finger using one of the thinner spacers. I'm not accustomed to wearing large rings, but I was able to adjust to this one quickly.

Casio Ring Watch CRW001 Module
The module in the Casio Ring watch displays time in 12- or 24-hour formats, date, day of the week, dual time, and features a stopwatch. It also features an LED backlight with a time flash function.

It is accurate to +/- 30 seconds per month. The 2-year battery is replaceable, but Casio recommends that you have an official retailer or service center perform the replacement.

Casio Ring Watch CRW001 Conclusion
While it's not something I would buy, the Casio Ring Watch is a fun novelty and a conversation starter. Sure, you can buy a full-size G-Shock watch for less money, but everyone has one of those! Plus, it's a functional timepiece. It could serve as an alternative to wearing a watch if you find rings more comfortable.
