Omega x Swatch Moonswatch Mission To The Moonphase Full Moon "White Snoopy" Watch Review - SO33W700

All of the original (and subsequent Moonshine variants) Swatch x Omega Moonswatches have been simple color changes. That was until Swatch released the Mission to Moonphase models this past spring. The white Full Moon was quickly followed up by the all-black New Moon variant and added a new module to the Moonswatch lineup. StrapHabit friend (and top customer) Levon of the Knife Nuts Podcast, helped get the Full Moon from the Philadelphia Swatch boutique to review.

Moonswatch Mission To The Moonphase Full Moon First Impressions

The all-white look works well on the Moonswatch. It's also the first Bioceramic watch that I've owned that looks like real ceramic (unlike the Swatch x Blancpain Antarctic). Maybe it's because it looks so similar to the actually ceramic Omega Speedmaster White Side of the Moon.

Moonswatch Mission To The Moonphase Full Moon Details

Besides looking cute, there is a reason for the Snoopy connection. Omega earned the “Silver Snoopy Award” from NASA in recognition of the brand’s contributions to space exploration. Since then, the brand has released a number of Snoopy-themed limited edition watches. This Moonswatch homage to the Snoopy Speedmasters looks most similar to the 2016 45th anniversary model.

The case dimensions are the same as regular Moonswatches. Unlike Mars, other variants like this Mission On Earth feature stick hands without lume for the chronograph subdial hands (minus one lost to the moonphase subdial).

It also has the same dual-signed crown.

When taking macro shots, I noticed that the Swatch S engraved on the underside of the acrylic crystal is absent. All standard Moonswatches have this as a nod to the Omega logo on a hesalite Moonwatch. Strangely it is shown on the Swatch Mission to Moonphase page.

Levon confirmed with Swatch that this is correct and that it has an anti-scratch coating similar the to Blancpain x Swatch Fifty Fathoms crystals. I also found a thread on Reddit stating that the new Earth Missions (such as the Polar Lights and Desert) have this. The Earths that I bought after the Moonphase do have the "S," so maybe it's a very recent change.

The moonphase display is also rotated 90 degrees on the black New Moon version. I find the horizontal layout on the Full Moon more intuitive.

Wearing the Moonswatch Mission To The Moonphase Full Moon

All Moonswatch variants are quite comfortable due to the ergonomic Speedmaster case shape and low weight. The Moonphase weighs the same but is half a millimeter thicker due to the crystal.

If you're looking for legibility, this model as well as the Moon and Mercury models are the best in that aspect. High contrast between the hands and the dial, plus subdials that are the same color help in this area.

The lume is decent as well and provides a green glow....

..plus the Mission to Moonphase models reveal an easter egg when exposed to UV light, such as from one of our Lume Charging Flashlights. The moon and stars glow blue as well as a hidden message: "I can't sleep without a night light."

Interestingly, like the Polar Lights, the lume on the hands also changes to blue under UV. The white Speedmaster version also features a lumed Snoopy on the dial.

The words can't be seen with the naked eye.

Moonswatch Mission To The Moonphase Full Moon Original and Replacement Straps

All Moonswatches use the same Velcro strap design. On the Full Moon, the all-white theme is continued. This gives an astronaut vibe, similar to the Mars strap.

Since the strap feels a bit cheap and bulky, swapping is pretty common on Moonswatches. My favorite on this watch is a white Deployant Rubber.

A black Ribbed Rubber Pass-Through is also great if you'd like to tone down the brightness a bit.

Moonswatch Mission To The Moonphase Full Moon Movement

As you've surely figured out, this model adds a moonphase indicator. The tip of the moon indicates the number of days past the full moon.

To set it, pull the crown out two clicks (there is still a phantom date position). If the chronograph was running, the center hand spins back to zero. You can then hold down the reset pusher to advance the moon phase.

If you're not sure where to set the moon phase, the Swatch product page for the Full Moon shows today's position. It moves in tiny increments rather than one-day jumps, so setting it up is by eyeball.

Not only does it add a complication, but the chronograph operation is upgraded. The second hand resets much quicker than on standard Moonswatch models. Additionally, the subdial minute hand spins around a few times! It's lost the tenth of a second indicator, but that's arguably useful anyway.

A different, more cartoonish moon is used to cover the battery.

It also has a cute dog footprint on it.

The standard moon model (shown below) shows a more accurate representation.

Conclusion:

I like this move by Swatch. Some collectors were getting tired of seeing only superficial updates to the line and regarding them as cash grabs (i.e. the Mission to Moonshine models). I'm happy to see Swatch continue to expand the Moonswatch line with additional functions. Plus I get to experience my first moonphase complication.

The price increases to $310, which is $30 more than a standard Moonswatch (which has also gone up by $10). A small increase that comes with additional features. If you weren't put off by the questionable value of this plastic watch in the first place, then the small bump shouldn't put you off.
