Jack Mason Strat-o-timer GMT: AWWC Edition Watch Review

Jack Mason Strat-o-timer GMT: AWWC Edition Watch Review

Anti Watch, Watch Club has collaborated with several watch brands to release some very cool collaboration watches. Since StrapHabit collaborated with AWWC on a watch strap, it would be perfect to photograph them together. Zac from AWWC graciously shipped me a few of his to borrow for the purpose, including this Jack Mason Strat-o-timer GMT: AWWC Edition.

Jack Mason Strat-o-timer GMT: AWWC Edition Watch Review

I first met some of the guys from AWWC at Windup NY several years ago. The group's mission is to provide support to veterans and first responders through monetary, social, humanitarian, and emotional assistance.

Despite the name, the group is made up of some hardcore watch enthusiasts. They aren't anti-watch, but rather against the idea that a watch is something to be babied and protected. One of the group's mantras is "Get out there, use your shit." So when I say hardcore, I mean it. They are a group of genuine and hardworking individuals, which is why I wanted to get involved, at least in my small way.

AWWC works closely with various military, medical, and law enforcement personnel to develop specialized products tailored to their needs and sells these products through the AWWC website via limited drops. All proceeds go towards veteran or first responder charities, operating costs, and product development. The group is non-profit and is run by a team of professionals who work full-time and volunteer to support the club during off-hours.

Similar to the StrapHabit strap, AWWC has also partnered with watch brands that have supported the organization through watch sales. In addition to this Strat-o-timer, the brand has collaborated with Vertex (review coming soon) and released a Sector Deep watch with Nodusa blacked-out version of the Random Rob edition that I own.

I regretted not buying this limited edition of 100 when it was available, so I was happy to spend some time with one. If you'd like to learn more and shop other products, visit the Anti Watch, Watch Club's website.

Jack Mason Strat-o-timer GMT: AWWC Edition First Impressions

While other Jack Mason Strat-o-timer models (including the shockingly popular Dr. Pepper LE) feature intricate finishing with many polished and brushed surfaces, the all-black tactical look works equally well on the platform. It transforms the watch into something tougher-looking and matches the group's aesthetic quite well. I recently listed my favorite GMT watches that have been featured on the StrapHabit blog. The Strat-o-timer was absent, but only because I had never reviewed one. If I had, it would have been at the top end of the list.

Jack Mason Strat-o-timer GMT: AWWC Edition Details

This Jack Mason watch was customized to match the group's aesthetic. The aforementioned DLC case is paired with a brushed black bezel insert (other models feature a shiny ceramic or sapphire insert).

Even the Texas star logo and date window surround are darkened. The only additional branding added is a small red "AWWC INC." in place of the model name, and a subtle white crosshair is added, making it easier to orient the dial visually. The watch combines a lot of things that I loved about the Sinn U1 S, but puts it in a more wearable package and adds second time zone functionality.

Wearing the Jack Mason Strat-o-timer GMT: AWWC Edition

The Strat-o-timer's 40mm diameter is just right, giving it a solid presence without getting in the way. The lugs are relatively compact, with the case measuring 47mm in total height. This will make it a good fit for most wrist sizes.

The watch is also slim enough not to get in the way, measuring 13mm thick (11.25 mm excluding the crystal).

It's comfortable to wear and easy to use. The bi-directional bezel has a solid click action, and the large crown is easy to grip. The case provides 300m of water resistance as well, impressive for a non-diver.

With the purpose of the watch being function over form, white hands and markers over a matte black dial offer the best possible legibility. The red GMT hand offers contrast as well, making it easy to spot and not confuse with the main hands. The applied markers and hands are blacked out as well to eliminate reflections, rather than being polished like on standard models.

Blue Super-LumiNova is applied liberally to the hands and markers, as well as the 24-hour indices on the bezel. This makes it just as easy to tell the time in the dark.

Bracelet and Replacement Straps for the Jack Mason Strat-o-timer GMT: AWWC Edition

Standard Strat-o-timer models come with a 7-link bracelet with polished and brushed finishing. While it is attractive and comfortable, it wouldn't have matched the aesthetic of the AWWC edition. Thus, this model includes a 3-row bracelet with rounded links and a DLC coating to match the blacked-out case.

The bracelet does still taper to 16mm and retains the quick-adjust clasp.

The Strat-o-timer has a 20mm lug width, and the bracelet has built-in QR springbars. This makes swapping straps easy. My favorite strap for it is, of course, the AWWC x StrapHabit strap with black hardware.

Jack Mason Strat-o-timer GMT: AWWC Edition Movement

Miyota's 9075 movement powers the Strat-o-timer GMT. I'm fully on team Traveler GMT, so this is the proper movement for a GMT in this price range. It's the most convenient for travelling, as a 12-hour hand can be jumped independently to show the current local time while the 24-hour hand stays true to home time.

It's a movement that's thin and reliable, but not too expensive. It operates at 28,800 vph with 42 hours of power reserve. The Standard accuracy of the 9075 is +30/-10 seconds per day, but Jack Mason regulates these to an impressive +/- 5. It sits behind a custom caseback that is secured by four screws. It features the watch number out of 100, and the AWWC logo and slogan.

Jack Mason Strat-o-timer GMT: AWWC Edition Conclusion

The Jack Mason Strat-o-timer AWWC is not available anymore, but both parties did a great job with the design. The normally bright Strat-o-timer looks great with the blacked out look. I look forward to seeing what AWWC does in the future!
