Nick Lehner

In my quest to bring you reviews of all of the Moonswatch variants, I recently waited in line and purchased a Swatch x Omega Moonswatch Mission to Saturn.

In my original review of the Swatch x Omega Moonswatch Mission to Mars and discussed why I wanted the Mars version to help make up for big regret. If you're looking for a full review of the Moonswatch and a comparison to the "real" Omega SpeedmasterI recommend reading that article first.

This article will focus on the details of the Saturn variant and what makes it unique. You can also visit this link to read all other Moonswatch reviews on the StrapHabit blog.

If you'd like to learn about some other great watches under $500, you can read the StrapHabit Top 10 list, or view other reviews of watches under $500. And be sure the check out our new NASA straps! They look great on a Moonswatch.

First Impressions:

It's quite interesting how Swatch has been able to create such a different vibe with each version of the Moonswatch just by changing to colors that correspond to a celestial body.

The Saturn features an attractive combination of a light tan dial, with a dark brown tachymetre scale, and two dark brown subdials. Of course, you can't miss the running seconds, which features an image of this model's signature planet.

Its Bioceramic case a dial are a lighter, cooler shade of tan than that of Jupter. Swatch describes it as "sandy beige."

It's also the only version to feature a photo of its celestial body on the dial. Perhaps because Saturn and its rings are so distinctive? I prefer the cleaner look of the versions without it, but it's a subtle color and didn't bother me.

The Mission to Saturn Details:

All Moonswatch versions have the same dimensions, The Mission to Saturn has conventional stick hands over the chronograph subdials.

Also like all other Moonswatches, the Saturn features the Swatch S engraved in the underside of the crystal, similar to the Omega Greek symbol you'd find on a "real" Moonwatch.

It also uses the same dual-signed crown and pump pushers.

Wearing the Moonswatch Mission to Saturn:

As with other Moonswatches, Saturn is quite comfortable due to the ergonomic Speedmaster case shape and its extremely low weight.

Hour, minute, and running small seconds hands are fully white as on most other Moonswatches. They stand out well against the sandy, providing decent, but not the best legibility. As with all Moonswatch models, I wish the hands were thicker, but this is a likely result of the inexpensive quartz movement.

All of the chronograph hands appear to be army green to me, although Swatch says that they are brown.

As with all Moonswatches other than Pluto, Saturn uses white lume that glows green at night. It's not extremely bright or thick. It doesn't have lume on the subdials hands like Mars does.

The Strap

The Saturn's strap is of the same design as the other Moonswatches, but this time in dark brown. It feels flimsy as the others do, and a bit bulky, but it is otherwise lightweight and comfortable.

As far as StrapHabit straps go, I found that brown straps look great on Saturn. Because it has 20mm lugs like the other versions, there are many great options.

My favorite option for it is a brown Slim Ridge FKM Rubber strap. Here is a list of some of the straps that would fit and we think look great with this watch.
-Deployant Rubber
-Ribbed Rubber Pass-Through
-
Ridge Rubber
-Tropical Rubber
-Premium Sailcloth and Sailcloth Colorway Collection
-Smooth Rubber
-Rubber and Sailcloth Hybrid Straps
-
Vented Rubber
-Waffle Rubber
-Epsom Leather
-Elastic
-Seatbelt

The Movement

All versions of the Moonswatch use the same Swatch quartz chronograph movement. It measures up to 30 minutes, as well as seconds and 1/10 seconds.

And of course, the battery cover on the Saturn features a photo of the ringed planet (the rings don't fit, however).

All versions that I have owned have the same text molded into the caseback.

Conclusion:

The Swatch x Omega Moonswatch Mission to Saturn initially looks very similar to Jupiter, but its subtle differences make it distinctive in person. Its brown details make it more subdued than Jupiter's orange. In addition to the planet on the running seconds subdial, it also has contrasting brown chronograph subdials and tachymeter scale. These details add up to make it another compelling option.
